Ich bin heute, das erste Mal seit Jahren, wieder durch die Lüneburger Innenstadt spaziert.
Mein Eindruck? Dreckiger, Leerer und sterbend.
Woher kommt das? Gefühlt steht heute jede. zweite Gewerbefläche leer. Hinter der IHK in der Grapengießer Straße wurde ein Gebäude abgerissen -stehen oder standen nicht alle Giebelhäuser unter Denkmahlschutz?
Die Straßen werden scheinbar nicht mehr täglich gereinigt, wie es vor zwanzig Jahren noch der Fall gewesen ist. Zwei Apotheken, die Wir-Leben- Apotheke am Sande und auch die Einhorn-Apotheke, Ecke Kleine Bäckerstraße/Am Sand- stehen entweder leer oder wurden durch ein "Esspresso House" ersetzt. Viele Kleine Läden, die schon früher Probleme hatten Publikum anzuziehen, sind gänzlich verschwunden.
Obdachlosigkeit war einmal ein Fremdwort für Lüneburg, heute siehst du sie in Hauseinngängen oder vor Geschäften liegen.
Eine kleine romantische Stadt, als solche wurde sie vor zwanzig Jahren noch bezeichnet, verkommen zu einer verwahrlosten Kleinstadt in deren Straßen ich mich heute nicht mehr bewegen möchte.
Ich frage mich, wie konnte es so weit kommen? Klar, Corona hat sicher auch dazu beigetragen, doch der Hauptgrund kann das Mikroben-Problem nicht sein. Das kann ich mir einfach nicht vorstellen.
Es ist traurig und beschämend, was aus dieser einst so schönen und stolzen Stadt geworden ist...
Früher habe ich mich dort stundenlang aufhalten und selbst unterhalten können. Heute wirkt sie heruntergekommen, leer und traurig.

My impression? Dirtier, emptier, and dying.
What's the reason for this? It feels like every other commercial space is vacant. Behind the Chamber of Industry and Commerce on Grapengießer Straße, a building was demolished—weren't all the gabled houses listed as historical monuments?
The streets don't seem to be cleaned daily anymore, as they were twenty years ago. Two pharmacies, the Wir-Leben-Apotheke on Am Sande and the Einhorn-Apotheke at the corner of Kleine Bäckerstraße and Am Sande, are either empty or have been replaced by an "Espresso House." Many small shops, which already struggled to attract customers, have disappeared completely.
Homelessness was once unheard of in Lüneburg; now you see people lying in doorways or in front of shops.
A small, romantic town—that's how it was described twenty years ago—has degenerated into a neglected little town whose streets I wouldn't want to walk through today.
I wonder, how could it have come to this? Sure, the pandemic certainly played a part, but the microbial problem can't be the main reason. I simply can't imagine that.
It's sad and shameful what has become of this once beautiful and proud town...
I used to be able to spend hours there, entertaining myself. Today it seems run-down, empty, and sad.
